A 29.9kW solar array and 48.36kWh Sigenergy battery with automatic backup, finished in all-black racking and bird proofing for a quality-focused Brisbane homeowner.

Project overview

Open Electrical designed and installed a large residential solar and battery system for a homeowner in Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane.

The customer wanted more than a high-capacity energy system. They were also focused on the finer details of the installation, including the correct mounting solution for their Colorbond roof, the appearance of the cable route and the long-term protection of the property.

The finished system combined almost 30kW of solar generation with 48.36kWh of battery storage, automatic backup capability and a clean all-black finish.

The customer’s priorities

The homeowner approached Open Electrical looking for a large solar and battery solution that would reduce their reliance on grid electricity and provide greater energy security during outages.

They were also particularly conscious of installation quality. Before proceeding, the customer wanted to confirm that the mounting brackets would be suitable for the home’s Colorbond roof profile. They were also interested in how the main cable route between the roof and garage would be completed, including whether the wiring could be concealed or would require external conduit.

These discussions allowed the installation team to consider the roof, cable pathways and preferred finish before arriving on site.

After assessing the property, roof space and expected energy requirements, Open Electrical designed a 29.925kW solar system supported by 48.36kWh of Sigenergy battery storage.

The solar array included 63 Jinko Solar Tiger Neo panels, positioned across multiple roof faces to make effective use of the available space.

The system was paired with a three-phase Sigenergy SigenStor inverter and battery solution. A Sigenergy Gateway was also included to provide automatic home backup during grid outages and manage the flow of electricity between the solar array, battery, home and grid.

This gave the homeowner a high-capacity system capable of generating and storing substantial amounts of energy while providing greater resilience during interruptions to the electricity network.

Careful planning and installation

The roof design required panels to be installed across several sections of the home. Before work commenced, the team considered the appropriate mounting equipment for the existing roof profile and reviewed the proposed cable pathways. This helped ensure the finished system would not only perform effectively but also maintain a clean, professional appearance.

The installation also included all-black anodised racking, including black mids, ends and clamps. These components were selected to complement the black panel frames and create a more consistent finish across the roof.

All-black bird proofing was installed around the solar array to help prevent birds and other animals from nesting beneath the panels. This provides additional protection for the wiring and roof area while helping to reduce future maintenance issues.

The result

The completed installation provides the homeowner with almost 30kW of solar generation and more than 48kWh of usable battery storage.

During the day, the solar array can power the home while charging the battery with excess generation. Stored energy can then be used later in the day or overnight, helping the household reduce its dependence on grid electricity.

During a grid outage, the Sigenergy Gateway allows the home to transition automatically to backup power, subject to the system configuration and available battery charge.

The result is a premium, future-ready energy system designed for high performance, reliable storage and long-term energy independence.

The homeowner was highly engaged throughout the design process and wanted confidence that the installation would protect the roof, maintain a clean appearance and deliver reliable backup capability.
