The case for batteries in Queensland has changed dramatically. Feed-in tariffs that once paid 44c per kWh now sit around 5c, while the power you buy back in the evening costs 25–35c. That gap is exactly what a battery monetises.
The basic maths
Every kilowatt-hour you store and use yourself is worth the retail rate you avoided paying, minus the feed-in credit you gave up. At current Queensland rates that’s roughly 20–30c per kWh, per cycle. A 13 kWh battery cycled daily saves in the order of $1,000–$1,400 a year.

- Your evening usage: a battery only pays off if you actually use the stored energy.
- Rebates: current federal and state incentives can cut thousands off the installed price.
- Tariff type: time-of-use tariffs widen the gap the battery arbitrages.
- Blackout protection: backup power is a real, if unpriced, benefit in storm season.
