Solar and battery rebates in Queensland: what you can claim

Rebates change the economics of solar and storage significantly, and they’re applied at the point of sale, so you don’t need to claim anything after the fact. Here’s what’s available and how it works.

Small-scale technology certificates (STCs)

The federal STC scheme discounts every solar installation based on system size and location. On a typical residential system it’s worth thousands, and your installer factors it straight into the quoted price. The scheme steps down each January, so identical systems get slightly less support every year.

Federal battery support

The Cheaper Home Batteries program discounts installed battery capacity for eligible systems. Combined with falling hardware prices, it has pulled typical payback periods under seven years for most Queensland homes.

What to watch

• Rebates require approved products and accredited installers; DIY or grey imports don’t qualify.
• Discounts are calculated on usable capacity, so oversized claims on spec sheets don’t help you.
• Schemes step down over time, and announced end dates have a habit of arriving early once budgets are spent.
